Mayen pull it on MAKE-UP business

It’s really nice to have u around Mayen.
My pleasure
Mayen you have been around for a while now; it seems there is a lot of money in make up business because we have so many people doing it?
Well as they say "looking good is a good business" but I'll rephrase "looking good is expensive"
You see a lot of ladies going to makeup shops and by the time they come out it seems they have just rob powder and for the same amount someone else is looking gorgeous. What is suppose to be a client expectations when they visit a make-up artist?
It all depends on the makeup artiste or makeup house you visit? Of course there are quacks as well, every woman knows makeup but it is just the professional touch with skills that distinct your job from others.
How do we know an experienced make-up artist; of course you know it is not by having a big outfit that determine if u are good or not ?
Of course, it’s obvious "...by their works we shall know them" it’s as simple as that.
Why is it that some make up last and some fade away quickly- Is it the face of the individual or the fault of the make-up artist?
Well, I would say it’s based on the products used...no matter the skin format a good professional makeup should last for 8 hours max "according to my ancestors" so the products you use counts.
What is unique about “you” make-up artists?
We make the looking good business very easy, most people don't understand the basic know-how of fashion probably because of their personality; others don't even have the time because they are busy with work, family and all. So for people of this category we bring the studio to their homes or office.
There is this believe that if you are use to make up and so on and you later stop it your face go bad-what is your take on this?
I would say that it’s obvious when you are on makeup and when you are not. So, for the people who are used to seeing you on makeup and suddenly see you without it will definitely notice the difference. If there must be a reaction it would occur immediately after the makeup is off the face and that's if the product is not good or the tools are not properly sanitized.
What are the materials or kit a good make-up artist most possess?
A Professional makeup artiste must-have are; Face Primer/Mattifiers, Concealer, Foundation, Powder, Makeup remover, eyeliner, Mascara, eye shadow, blush/bronzer, lipsticks/gloss etc but for basics; and of course, a brush set, curler, makeup box.
For the benefit of readers, what are the attributes or qualities I most see in a make-up artist and I can be rest assured that I am not going to waste my money, time and also destroy my skin?
A good makeup artiste should be learned enough to know what component is healthy for the skin, which is why he or she is called a "Professional".
What are the challenges of this industry?
The number one challenge is that makeup products and materials are expensive. Also, because makeup is an act that is easy to learn most people do not consider it from a professional angle.
A PRO makeup artiste must be friendly to hang around with, clean and precise in looks; he/she most pay attention to details because that's what distinct your work from others.
Who can you say is your mentor in this business?
Well, I have a couple of mentors, they have inspired me into becoming who I am in makeup today; for Tara Fela-Durotoye of House of Tara it’s her Vision for makeup, for Banke Mesheda of BM PRO it’s her creativity, for Lolade Ogunjimi it’s her attention to details and the business behind the makeup. These are the qualities that inspires me about each of them.
What joy do you derive when customer is happy with your work?
Wow! there is this sensation of fulfillment each time a client is happy with my work, it gives me the drive to do more.
What is your advice to people who believe they have rough face and they have tried one thing or the other and yet no result?
Well, like I said earlier I'm not Derma-care personnel, however, there are basic simple things you could do to keep your face clean, wash as often as you can, use a good cleanser, moisturizer, scrub at least once a week or better yet go for facials. Wear less makeup every-day except the occasion calls for it, so the pores on your face can breath well.
Finally, you see people with very heavy and loud make up and you like ask yourself what is this and you see people with soft make up and they look beautiful; What is your take on what a lovely make up should look like?
(Laughs) That's because they don't understand the concept of make-up. Your makeup look must suit the occasion with which you are attending. There are different types of makeup looks; just the way you cannot wear your casual outfit to you office, it's the same way in makeup as well- You cannot wear a party makeup to a corporate event.
It’s really nice to have u around Mayen,
Album wish you the best in your career.
