I am a hard working individual, passionate and motivated by
deadlines. I have an understanding in Styling, Designing, Branding as well as
its roles in the running and contributions to the efficiencies of the Fashion
house. This is your statement which describes you and your career- outstanding.
Q: What brought you into the fashion world and how was the
beginning like?
************ I was born with a creative talent and Mrs. Mary
Coleman, my mother was a designer and a seamstress. She was into designing and
manufacturing ladies’ clothes with about five workers, so I saw how the job was
done every single day of my life - as a result, I knew what I wanted to do in
life at a very tender age. But the fear of not being accepted or failing kept
me from starting up the business initially. Even though my mother and two
younger sisters kept encouraging me, I never yielded until I met my Nigerian
friend Chibueze Ojukwu. So, the four of them kept encouraging me until September
2012 when I finally decided to take the bold step to start up PERNIA COUTURE
(designing and manufacturing ladies clothes). I was doing these up until May
2014 when my workers left and I had to take a break because the work load
became too much for me and my mother to handle. During that break, I kept
wondering what else I could do till I slept one afternoon and I had a dream of
me creating neck pieces - so I woke up, sketched, manufactured all the designs
I saw in the dream, and that's how I came out with my debut beads accessory
collection “GRANDEUR”, all neck pieces in 2015. The following year in 2016, I
came out with my second beads accessory collection "A-SHE-SO-DZI “, again
all neck pieces, and I haven't looked back ever since. I must say, it's been a
journey worth it so far...
Q: As a creative director which you refer yourself as, does
it means you create your styles of outfits or there is more?

produced by Pernia, ranging from neck pieces to clothes and deal with every
creative direction Pernia needs ….
Q: Do you have a specialty or you can make all forms of
designs for women and men?
*********I make all forms of designs both men and women but chose
to focus more on designing for women ….
Q: You do accessories too. Where does your strength stand
between the accessories and clothing- because your beads are really stunning?
**************Thank you!! I do have strength in both accessories
and cloth designing. Though I have been designing more accessories than
clothes for a while now….
Q: I am excited about this; tell us more about your outlet
and your vision for Pernia Couture?

have showrooms all over the world, for the Pernia brand to be acceptable worldwide,

Q: Do you think Africa fashion is trending in world fashion?

Q: If you are not into fashion and all that, what would you
have done or practice as a career?
************I would have been an accountant because that’s what I
ended up studying …
Q: Who has encouraged you to be who you are today?
*********My mother, Mrs. Mary Coleman noticed my creative talent
at a very tender age,she decided to forget the fact that my dad was not in
support of studying arts, kept on supporting me with her prayers , encouraging
words and sometimes working with me day and night….. Not forgetting my two
younger sisters Nana and Mercy Coleman, Chibueze Ojukwu and my very good friend
Emmanuel AmetepeOfori who have been there every single moment to push me on
with their encouraging words………
Q: You are a Ghanaian married to a Nigerian; honestly,
who do you think is more fashionable between the two countries?
*****To be honest- both Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures are
both very rich and beautiful… They have both been diverse, reflecting our many
ethnic groups, religious and cultures.. Looking at our textiles and weaving,
embroidery, head gears etc, you notice that both countries share many
similarities culturally…….
Thanks for your time Anna; Album wishes you all the best.
