! Move around the area and find out about the location, check out shops, parks, hospitals, schools around and nearest security post.

Or, we will convert this room when we move in when you have not already done so.
! Since you don’t have all the time, it is better your home is set up before you move in; so that when you move in everything is working. Set up your electricity, gas and water ready. Try and ask the landlord the status of your electricity and water. Know if vans come up to take your refuse or you take it few kilometers to get to the van point. Get your cable provider to fix your dish or antenna. Quickly find out if your internet network works fast where you are or you need to change.
! If the apartment is not painted, try and paint it. This makes you appreciate your new home the more and make you start clean.
! Fumigate your new apartment before packing in- so that your kids don’t start falling sick and they come complaining to you they want to return to their former apartment.
! Finally, after you have settled down, make sure you file necessary paper work for having mail and necessary bills forwarded to your new address. Also notify your friends, so that when next your wife gives birth and you send invitation to them- they don’t go to your former house and think you are playing a prank on them.
