LFP has Crowned PSG Champions due to Coronavirus





BREAKING: Paris Saint-Germain have been awarded the Ligue 1 title after the season was ended due to the coronavirus pandemic.



PSG were 12 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table with a game in hand over second placed Marseille, when the French government suspended all sporting activities indefinitely on 13 - March, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The LFP also Crowned Lorient as Ligue 2 champions in a conference call.




“We have decided there would be two promotions and two relegations,” Didier Quillot, the chief executive of the French League, told a news conference. It means Amiens and Toulouse will be relegated and Lorient and Lens will be promoted.


“There might be appeals but our decisions are solid,” Quillot said while also saying the LFP has until 25 May to tell Uefa which clubs would be qualified for European competitions.


PSG chairman and CEO, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, while reacting to the news said: "We understand, respect and support the decisions taken by the French Government to end the championship. Health, as the government has always said, must be everyone's priority.


"In these difficult times, I hope that this trophy will bring a little happiness and hope to all our supporters, and I am grateful to them for their unwavering support which helps drive Paris St-Germain forward."
