Health workers may abscond if not protected - Archbishop of Abuja

Interview with Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos, Nigeria - YouTube

The Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, has advised that Health workers may abscond from duty if necessary facilities and materials to protect them against covid-19 is insufficient.

In his remarks to the News Agency of Nigeria, He stressed the need for sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical personnel.

“There should be provision for more people to get tested and healthcare workers should be equipped with PPEs so that they don’t need to run away from patients. That I have malaria may not be COVID-19″, he said.

The cleric urged the centers to be suitable as to allow people with the symptoms to freely and confidently work in for testing than stay away if the centres lack the welcoming ambience.

“If the isolation centres are not conducive, people will not be willing to open up when they are suspected to have the virus”, he said.

“This is not the time to play politics, we can see that the government is interested in combating COVID-19,” the Archbishop noted.
