High Court orders CBN to unfreeze accounts of EndSARS protesters

The Federal High Court - Abuja, has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the bank accounts of the (20) #ENDSARS Sponsors.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed, gave the ruling following the agreement reached by parties in the suit to amicably resolve the matter.

In his ruling, he ordered that all processes filed in respect of the case are hereby deemed to have been withdrawn
and ordered that all the accounts of the affected persons be immediately released.

The Apex bank (CBN) said it took the action to investigate the promoters of the protest on allegations bordering on terrorism financing, among others.

In a related development, some of the #ENDSARS campaigners had since threatened to sue the Federal Government for trampling on their rights by freezing their accounts.

Reacting to the high court order,  Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami
, said the decision to comply with the court order or not would not be out of intimidation.

He said, “The decision to comply with the court order or not is not a decision that is a product of intimidation; government cannot be intimidated, government cannot in anyway be compromised as far as the exercise of its constitutional powers are concerned but that does not mean the government is perpetually inconsiderate".
