Nigeria's Super Falcons have stunned the Australians in a must win game at the on-going FIFA women world cup (2023). It was a 3-2 win over co-host of the competition - Australia.
After going a goal down to the Matildas,as the game headed towards first-half injury time, through Emily Van Egmond goal, it wasn’t long that Nigeria equalized through Uchenna Kanu.
Into the second half and Nigeria were at their clinical best midway through the half as Osinachi Ohale headed in from close range to give the Super Eagles a lead. Nigeria then got their third soon after as gallant forward Asisat Oshoala pounced on some terrible Australian defending and finished well into an empty net.
Australia pulled one back through Alanna Kennedy before the game was wrapped up. The Super Falcons once again have Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to thank for keeping them in the game in early part of the match.
The Matildas who were stunned 3-2 in Brisbane, are ranked 10th and Nigeria 40th.
