Soun Stool: Oba Ghandi Olaoye to appeal sack After Court Ruling

There's another twist to the already filled stool of Soun Kingdom. After Ghandi Olaoye was installed as the Oba which has been vacant since the demise and burial of former King - Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, on December 12, 2021. Oba Oyewumi ruled for 48 years and died aged 95. Ghandi was installed as the new Soun of Ogbomosho on September 8, 2023.

Now, Justice Kareem Adedokun, on Wednesday, ruled that the selection process that led to Ghandi’s emergence was fraught with illegalities.

Though, there was a court injunction before he was crowned, to stop any process of installation until the final verdict of nomination filed by plaintiff - Prince Kabir Olaoye, was decided. The Oyo State government though went ahead with the installation process.

A source in the palace has said that Oba Ghandi Olaoye will appeal the decision of the Oyo State High Court on his position as the Soun of Ogbomoso.

The judge ruled that Ghandi was not validly nominated by the Laoye Ruling House and declared that the nomination; approval by the state government and installation by the kingmakers was null and void.

The judge therefore granted the prayer of the plaintiff - Prince Kabir Olaoye, that the nomination be set aside and ordered a fresh process.

The plaintiff is one of the candidates for the Soun stool.

A source in the palace has urged the public to maintain peace, adding that the judgment would be appealed.
