Though coach Jose Peseiro opted to include him in the Super Eagles squad for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Kelechi has credited his managers faith in him by getting fit.
He was quoted by complete sports saying: "I am one hundred percent fit at the moment. I am good to go," "I was lucky that it was just a Grade A muscle injury."
However, veteran attacker -Ahmed Musa, who is also in the squad has warned the Super Eagles not to underrate Guinea-Bissau, if they are to make it into the next phase of the biennial competition.
"We have to keep fighting hard and not underrate our next opponent. They beat us in the qualifiers which is enough for us to be wary of them,"
"The good thing is that everything is in our hands now. We know what to do to be in the next round. The victory over Ivory Coast has helped us a lot.
"The most important thing now is for us to keep doing our best in training and on matchdays. It’s still a long way to go for us, but the key thing is to remain positive and keep working towards achieving our target."
