Adetifa Derinsola you are welcome. You are a singer, the C.E.O of empress music and also a lecturer of music- what a marriage. Can you tell us who you are before you started music, what brought music and how you became a lecturer of music?

# Good day ....Well i have always loved music right from my childhood days but just like every regular person, i wanted to be an Accountant; I just love the way this people (Accountants) rock their suit- looking so neat and compose (Laughs) but then after my secondary school, admission to the university did not come as fast as i expected. A friend from a music and oratorio group I joined while in SS 2 class told me about Peter kings school of music at Badagry. I told my parent about my intentions. I gave it a shot and it was there i learnt rudiments of music, guitar and little of the piano at Peter kings; I also did music exams at Muson. After this, i got admission to study Banking and Finance. My love for children made me go into teaching music, so i teach and train music till date...

You have this voice that has almost the same resemblance with that of yinka davies and Asa which is the attraction. Have any one ever told you this before now?

# Well concerning my voice, people tell me i have a charming voice and i appreciate the love. The resemblance makes it unique...this two are wonderful and i love them so well.

What kind of music do you do?

# My genre is Afrocentric jazz, blues and rock...i just love this combination.

Do you have any Album that you have release?

# I am working on my album for now but i have a singles on sound cloud, titled "Jeunkokuu" and i have another singles I’m working on at the moment, its titled "Omo (promoting the African child)" I really love this one.

What do you think is your selling point or what do you think your fans like about you?

# Well i think my creativity on the guitar and my voice plus my wide smile is something my fans love about me...

You play the guitar very well- is that the only musical instrument you play and how does this help your music?

# The guitar is my major instrument but i also play little of the piano and violin and this help to build my confidence anywhere i find myself. This helps me to perform well without having to bother about someone to play with me on the instrument. This is a plus for me i think.

Before you got to this level, have you ever feared that people might not like your music?

# For me my music is more of message and i believe one out of ten 2 out of twenty and hundred out of thousand will definitely need that message...this has been my focus and belief.

How do you handle standing before the crowd when you first started?

#Oh very well. Before i started to grace shows, i have always been one of the church choristers. i was the music prefect for my set and i do well enough, So it is more like doing the same thing with different set of people.

Do you think you are getting the right recognition with all the hard work you are putting into this business?

#Though not yet where i want but I am grateful because I am getting closer enough- thanks to my fans.

Where have you taken your music to and what is your acceptance like?

# I have had some wonderful performances alongside great musicians. I was at 2014 Felabration with my band and there i performed "Jeunkokuu" a remix of Baba Fela Anikulapo kuti's song. I was also at Kalakuta same period. I have hosted JTR(just talking relationship) couples dinner for number of times and i hosted A-live with Empress(organized by Alliance francaise lagos) and celebration of Bogobiri Art and music festival. I have also graced live shows at Cotonu and Niger...All this has been a wonderful experience for me and the acceptance has been really awesome.

What challenges are you having with the Nigerian music industry or what do you think the music industry can do to help artist/singer?

# Basically, the industry needs to pay more attention to the live performing acts just as much as they do to the recording acts. Also they should build a platform to make life easier for the upcoming acts as well.

Among Nigerian Artist/musician who would you rate among your top 5 in terms of their creativity, hard work and stage performance?

# I love Asa, Imole ayo Balogun, Lagbaja, Olamide and of course Yinka davies...they do it right and i love them. You have a band that sings with you.

How do you feel when you see some musician u sing DJ effects to perform?

# Well, we all have our strength-so everyone is free to express his/her creativity whichever is convenient....

Music pass message to the listeners and so many songs give negative message;  what message is your music passing across to the public?

#I believe irrespective of culture, status, religion, race and what have you, there is a standard at which everyone is expected to live this life...this is what my music talks about: Loving a fellow man as much as yourself, standing for nothing but the truth, embracing the coming generation (children/youth) for they are the leaders of tomorrow; encouraging the government and of course individuals at large.

How do you relax?

# Aside my music activities, i love sketching, sewing and reading.

Album wish you all the best.
