Cinema plea for reopening get boost


The plea by Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (Cean) has gotten a boost. The Lagos State government has given a green light to reopening of Cinemas at 33% capacity, while making sure safety guidelines are abide to.




It was at a virtual meeting less than a week ago, that the governor met with members of the "cean";of which media personality- Mo Abudu, actor-omonioboli and others were in attendance. Mr. Governor assured them of plans to reopen their sector during the meeting:


"At a virtual meeting with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria today, I expressed solidarity with the stakeholders in the creative and entertainment industry following the impact of COVID-19 on their sector.

I promised that we will work collaboratively as we put in place measures to open the sector for business. I am aware of the challenges they are facing.

While we balance work and life, we have to do what is right to protect the lives of Lagosians."




After the meeting, Mo Abudu thanked the Governor:

Dear Mr Governor, @jidesanwoolu, thank you so much for your time today. We as an industry appreciate your support and concern.

While Nigeria is getting the lift, It is not so in the UK. Beverley Knight, MBE who is an English recording artist and musical theatre actress, has along with others stage a silent protest outside the Lyric theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, to urges the uk government to reopen theatres for sake of livelihoods. On her Instagram page she said:
Yesterday outside the Lyric theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. Home to @sixthemusical. Myself and five other women staged a silent protest to amplify the voices of the hundreds of thousands who livelihoods will be dashed if the government doesn’t begin a programme of reopening theatres in a viable way.
