Chelsea part way with head coach Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea part way with head coach Thomas Tuchel after what seems like an unacceptable and shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

The Croatian champions have a woeful record in this competition - winning just five(5) of 43 games before they played Chelsea; but surprisingly, they stubbornly held on after taking a first-half lead at 13th-minute by Mislav Oršić.

Mislav Oršić netted the 13th-minute winner, running through from the halfway line and beautifully dinking a finish past the advancing Kepa Arrizabalaga. The match in Croatia was Tuchel's 100th in charge of the Blues – but it proved his last.

The German Coach said after the game that: I am angry at myself and Chelsea performance.

It is Tuchel's third defeat of the new season which has been unstable.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain boss exits after winning three trophies in 20 months.

Owner -Todd Boehly has placed Tuchel's coaching staff in temporary charge until a replacement is found.

It is also understood that Chelsea will make a swift appointment and among the bookmakers' favourites to take over are Brighton manager Graham Potter, former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

Their new ownership oversaw a £255.3m spending spree in the summer window, thought to be a British record, bringing in eight new players.

A statement from the club reads: "Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

"As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

"Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

"There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made."
