He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family . He was the 39th US President.
Carter, 100, became the oldest living former president in US history in March 2019, surpassing George H.W. Bush. He was the first American president to reach triple digits.
He won the noble peace price during his life time.
His single-term presidency was marked by historic achievements such as the Camp David Accords, which brokered peace between Egypt and Israel.
